Summer Feeling
July 30, 2008
I went outside today. Isn’t that something? It’s been really hot and muggy out there lately, and since I have to learn for exams I shut myself in with a fan and powered through. Today, though, I decided to take care of some other stuff that had to be taken care of and I ventured to the other side of the door. It’s been a toss up this week: will there be thunderstorms or will the heavy clouds just bottle in more heat? But today, it was radiant sunshine the whole way. Only cute little fluffy white cumulus in the sky. So I packed on some sunscreen (especially on my new scar) and went. Then I realised: if you’re covered in yummy smelling sun cream, your skin is sticky from that and the immediate sweat, and the sun is beaming down on you – it feels like vacation, even in the middle of the city.

This morning I had the next appointment with my dermatologist, to get the stitches pulled out. Now I was very apprehensive of today because I remember last year when they exited the stitches it was painful. Like, worse than any of the rest and pretty much the worst pain I can remember feeling. And it didn’t help that I had to wait over an hour – again- before the assistant called me into the consulting room.
She told me to sit down, flipped away my hair (carelessly, as is pretty much every move of her towards a patient) and said: this will pull a little. Then she cut one knot, which did twinge a very little bit, and then pulled – and I felt absolutely nothing. This operation is going so much better than the last one. The cutting out went faster and with less pain and blood loss, the stitches were less in number and covered area, the wound was easier to tend to, the scar is a neat very thin line (and not a bludgering gap) and it didn’t even hurt!
I was then transferred to another room to wait some more, this time on the doctor. When she finally came in, it was all to say one phrase: it’s a [insert complicated medical term in three words that I didn't understand]. Then the explanation: it’s benign, as in not malignant. Yay! No further procedures for now, I was sent on my way.
This was all celebrated with The BF over a very scrumptious lunch. But after the whole waiting and lunching I used up much of my day, so I will now be spending the rest of my time cooped up in my small and hot apartment, learning for my exam – which is in two weeks.
Another favorite funny show to waste time – on real TV

I just finished watching “The Daily Show: Global Edition” on Comedy Central. Finally, CC Germany picked it up and is now showing it, in english, with subtitles. It airs Tuesdays at 23h30 and is reran on sundays at 17h. It’s really too bad it only goes half an hour. It’s a lot like InfoMania, only it’s about news and politics rather than the general media. And although InfoMania is funny, Jon Stewart is hilarious. I was seriously laughing out loud and almost choked on my food. No, really, I’m not exaggerating. So if you get a chance, pick it up and we can discuss
For all of you wondering when I get any work done with all the surfing and TV-watching I apparently do on a daily basis I can tell you: it’s a gift. A special power I was born with. I just absorb the stuff like nothin’. Especially if it’s socially critical in a very funny way. In the same line I might add The (legendary) Simpsons, South Park and American Dad. But the gags go fast, so you really have to get it to find it funny. And instructional!
